Keith Olbermann WTF Moment: Miss California Carrie Prejean

Keith Olbermann debuted a new and recurring segment on his show tonight called "Countdown's WTF Moment." The first WTF moment centered on Miss California Carrie Prejean, who was thrust into the public eye after she expressed opposition to gay marriage during the Miss America pageant. (Donald Trump, the pageant owner, said in a press conference today that Ms. Prejean would be allowed to keep her crown despite the fact that several racy and previously undisclosed photos have come to light.)

Olbermann expressed astonishment at Ms. Prejean's claim that Satan was trying to tempt her when Perez Hilton asked her the question regarding gay marriage, cast a dubious eye on her claims to have been betrayed by the photographer who snapped the semi-nude photos, and rebutted her statement that her free speech rights have been attacked and that she has been punished for taking a stand.

Ignorance and Intolerance in Allen County

I just finished reading a post by my friend, Sheri Rouse, in which she stated that she had come to doubt her own faith due to the actions of "so-called Christians" in this community as well as in her own place of worship. Sheri was rightfully disgusted by a letterboard sign posted in front of the Marantha Chapel in Harlan:

When a true follower of Christ such as Sheri Rouse is forced to examine her religious beliefs due to the actions of sheeplike individuals who practice only the parts of the scripture that they choose to follow, a point of no return has been reached. Actions by folks like the ones she describes in her post have forced me firmly into the agnostic column, despite a strong Christian upbringing.

I think, nay I know, that Sheri will endure this test with her faith reaffirmed. She will fight back against those who profess faith but practice intolerance and division. It is her very nature to do so. After reading Sheri's post, I clicked over to the local Democratic Party website and found that Kevin Knuth had also picked up on this story. Kevin reports that after contacts and complaints were made, the sign has disappeared. While I'm glad to hear that piece of news, I can only assume that the true message of the sign still exists, albeit only in the heart and mind of the pastor that originally posted it's message of hate and intolerance on that signboard. Sleep well tonight, sir. If you can.

McCain's a "celebrity" Too!

After mocking Barack Obama and labeling him as a celebrity, it turns out that Grampy McSame has spent over $5,000 on his own personal Hollywood Make-up artiste! Tifanie White, the makeup artist who works on "American Idol," performed cosmetic services for the "senior" senator on several occasions, most notably before his joint appearance with Barack Obama at Saddleback. I guess John Edward's $400 haircuts weren't all that extravagant after all. . .

Iran? Let's BOMB them (After their check clears)!

Top states shipping goods to Iran include California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin, according to an analysis by The Associated Press of seven years of U.S. government trade data.

The latest GOP Sexcapade

In what seems to be nearly a daily event, yet another Republican "sexcapade" has come to light. Louisiana Sen. David Vitter, who publicly apologized after being linked to an alleged prostitution ring in Washington, was once a client of a high-priced New Orleans brothel, a former madam told a New Orleans television station Tuesday:




Vitter, a first-term Republican who previously served in the House, recently played a prominent role in derailing an immigration bill backed by President Bush. He's also a key supporter of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid, serving as regional campaign chairman for the South. What a GREAT match. . .

Newtie's "revisionist history"

Newt Gingrich, that great revisionist historian and hypocritical adulterer, has just released a new "scary" video designed to fire up the anti-immigration crowd. In the video, available on his website and posted below for your perusal, Newtie claims that Mohammed Atta and the rest of the Saudi-Arabian terrorists from the 9/11 attack were in our country illegally.

The video begins with Gingrich saying, "Mohamed Atta, and several other 9/11 hijackers were in the United States illegally." Next, photos of Atta and the other 9/11 hijackers appear and the word "Illegally", printed in bold, red letters, flashes over the screen. "Today, more than five years since that tragic day, our borders remain open to gangs, drug dealers and terrorists," says Gingrich.




However, a check of the 9/11 Commission Report reveals that Atta entered the United States on a tourist visa and the U.S. subsequently approved him for a student visa on July 17, 2001 that was good through October 1, 2001.

"Atta was in the country legally on 9/11," confirmed Janice Kephart, a former counsel to the 9/11 Commission and co-author of the commission's report on 9/11 and Terrorist Travel to ABC News. "Atta was now legally in the United States until the day of the planned attack," reads the commission's report on 9/11 and terrorist travel on page 36.

In fact, all of the 19 men who hijacked planes on September 11th, including Atta, entered the United States on a tourist, or student visa, issued by the former U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. And Atta's visa status was widely reported in the media in 2002 when the INS famously sent a letter to Atta's Florida flight school, which was received on the sixth month anniversary of 9/11. The letter said the INS had approved a request to change Atta's status from a tourist visa to a student visa weeks before the attacks.

Citizens United, a conservative group lobbying against the immigration bill, paid for the ad and says they have purchased a "six-figure" media buy for the ad to appear on cable television. Do drop by and give them some "love". . .

Dr.Laura's good boy's "gone bad"

Dr.Laura spends most of her time lecturing people on how to live their lives, and deriding them for their personal decisions. It's how she earns her living; being the overbearing, family values espousing know it all who tells Iraq war wives to "stop whining"and get over it. Well, that and writing books such as the one to the right.

It's always been my understanding that in order to write well about any given subject requires that you have some definite and often extensive knowledge of that subject. Especially when you are giving "life advice" to others as your chosen topic for your books.

Where am I going with this you ask? Well, I have just discovered some information that leaves me with the impression that Dr.Laura knows absolutely nothing about that which she regurgitates over and over on the air and in print. Or maybe she's just a hypocrite.

You see, Ms.Schlessinger has a 21 year-old son, Deryk, who is a paratrooper serving on active duty in Iraq. Since we haven't heard her "whining" about this, you might assume that she's merely following her advice to those other Iraq-vet mothers. Nah. . .I'm pretty sure it's out of embarrassment. Allow me to fill you in regarding the "problem behaviour" of her son:

Deryk Schlessinger is currently under investigation for a graphic personal Web page that one Army official has called "repulsive, at best". The MySpace page, publicly available until it disappeared from the Internet last Friday, included cartoon depictions of rape, murder, torture and child molestation; photographs of soldiers with guns in their mouths; a photograph of a bound and blindfolded detainee captioned "My Sweet Little Habib"; accounts of illicit drug use; and a blog entry headlined by a series of obscenities and racial epithets.

"Yes . . . F---ING Yes!!!"read one blog entry on the Schlessinger site. "I LOVE MY JOB, it takes everything reckless and deviant and heathenistic and just overall bad about me and hyper focuses these traits into my job of running around this horrid place doing nasty things to people that deserve it . . . and some that don't. Godless crazy people like me have become a generation of apathetic killers."

The site indicated Schlessinger's team has survived numerous mortar, rocket and roadside bomb attacks. It also included several graphic cartoons. In one of the stick drawings, a top-hatted man laughs as he rapes a bound and bleeding woman in front of her family. In another depiction, a man forces a boy to perform oral sex at knifepoint as the child's mother pleads for her son's life.

The Salt Lake Tribune learned of the Web page earlier this week from a former schoolmate of Deryk Schlessinger and alerted Army officials about the site last Thursday. Salt lake City is home to 570 KNRS, the home for "Family Values Talk Radio" and "The Dr.Laura Show". At least the newspapers there can still be counted upon to report the truth. Perhaps Dr.Laura should put down her microphone, pick up a telephone, and finally practice some of what she preaches to the great soiled masses. But, then again, had she already been living the lifestyle she has dictated to others all of these years. . .we might not be discussing such disturbing behavior from her son today.

Republican hipocrisy

Monica Goodling, the Department of Justice official who said Monday that she'll invoke the Fifth Amendment rather than talk to lawmakers, is a frequent figure in department e-mails released so far as part of the congressional investigation into the firings and hirings of U.S. attorneys.

Goodling, 33, is a 1995 graduate Messiah College in Grantham, Pa., an institution that describes itself as "committed to embracing an evangelical spirit."

She received her law degree at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. Regent, founded by Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson, says its mission is "to produce Christian leaders who will make a difference, who will change the world."

E-mails show that Goodling was involved in planning the dismissals and in later efforts to limit the negative reaction. As the Justice Department's liaison to the White House, she could shed light on the extent of White House involvement in the dismissals.

Goodling took a leading role in making sure that Tim Griffin, a protege of presidential adviser Karl Rove, replaced H.E. "Bud" Cummins as the U.S. attorney in Arkansas. Documents released to Congress include communications between Goodling and Scott Jennings, Rove's deputy.

In an Aug. 18, 2006, e-mail to Kyle Sampson, then Gonzales' chief of staff, Goodling warned of potential political problems with Griffin's appointment and underscored White House interest in getting it done.

"We have a senator prob, so while wh is intent on nominating, scott thinks we may have a confirmation issue," Goodling wrote.

At Jennings' request, documents show, Goodling agreed to meet last summer with two Republican activists from New Mexico who felt that U.S. Attorney David Iglesias wasn't doing enough to pursue allegations of voter fraud by Democrats. Iglesias believes the issue was a key factor in his firing.

In a June 20 e-mail, Jennings asked Goodling to arrange a Justice Department meeting for New Mexico Republican Mickey Barnett, who came to Washington with Paul Rogers, another GOP activist.

"It is sensitive - perhaps you should do it," Jennings suggested.

"Happy to do so," Goodling replied. A copy of her daily planner, which was provided to congressional investigators, shows that she met with the two the next day.
