Original Mavericks To McCain: "You're No Maverick"
Fontaine Maverick, great-great-granddaughter of Samuel Augustus Maverick (1803-1870) explains the origin of the expression -- and why it shouldn't apply to the Republican candidate:

The clean-election group Campaign Money Watch announced just now that a new ad going after McCain for his ties to the gambling industry, will be airing two battleground locales -- Lynchburg, Virginia and Tallahassee, Florida -- in addition to national cable:

This call came into Alexandria's 911 system on October 21 -
Operator: 911 state your emergency
Caller: It's not an emergency, but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95 traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way?
Operator: Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (pause)
Caller: "(Expletive) you." (caller hangs up)
"Hi this is Joe McCain. I can't take this message now because I'm involved in a very (inaudible) important political project. I hope on November 4th we have elected John."
Caller: Somebody gave me this riot act about the violation of police.
Operator: Did you just call 911 in reference to this?
Caller: Yeah.
Operator: 911 is to be used for emergencies only not just because you're sitting in traffic.
The Obama campaign is up with their second ad of the day targeting John McCain's plan to tax individual health benefits. While the first ad focused on Sarah Palin's inability to explain McCain's health tax plan, this ad goes straight at the core issue: that John McCain is proposing -- for the first time ever - to tax health benefits:

After an economic speech Wednesday at the Truman Library and Museum in Independence, Missouri, John McCain had some trouble making his exit. Watch:

John McCain does not have the ability to fix this economic crisis. After declaring the fundamentals of the economy strong, he created a political circus in Washington last week by mucking up bailout negotiations; a deplorable stunt, considering he and his political cronies helped cause the current meltdown.

What a surprise! In addition to his SEVEN HOMES, John McCain owns 13 vehicles; three of which are foreign made, despite his statements:
"There's only one candidate who's called himself "fundamentally a deregulator" when deregulation is part of the problem. My opponent actually wrote in the current issue of a health care magazine - the current issue - quote - "Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation."
So let me get this straight - he wants to run health care like they've been running Wall Street. Well, Senator, I know some folks on Main Street who aren't going to think that's a good idea."

It's too bad that we lost "Mr.Voice" last week - I can hear him doing the preview for this one right now:

The Obama campaign has debuted it's second ad in as many days on McCain's multiple houses. Entitled "Out of Touch," it bemoans McCain's "country club economics" and features a video clip of the Arizonan tooling around in a golf cart with former President George H.W. Bush, presumably while unaware of the number of houses he and his wife own:

John McCain thought it was a good idea to use the standard Republican "My opponent is an elitist" attack against Barack Obama. The problem - McCain really IS the elitist; leaving himself wide open to return attacks. Here's one of the best ones thus far:

The Obama camp's ad makers fired a return attack on John McCain today, featuring the "celeb" theme used against them last week:
