Friday Nite Retro
TGIF! Welcome to your weekly home for the obscure, the recondite, the center for "where the hell are they now" - Friday Nite Retro. Sadly enough, in answer to that last question, the lead singer for tonight's feature went underground before ever hitting it big. You might say that's not an unusual scenario in the music biz, but what I meant was that he died from a heroin overdose before his breakout album was released.
I refer to Bradley Nowell of. . .SUBLIME. Nowell was found dead in a hotel room on May 25, 1996, just two months before the release of the band's self-titled third album. That album experienced a hugely successful release based on the single 'What I Got'; which can be considered a summary of the band's outlook on life. Even sadder, Nowell had gotten married just seven days before, and left behind a son, Jakob.

The dalmation that appears in the videos was Nowell's beloved "Lou Dog".

The remaining members of the band, Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh, formed The Long Beach Dub All Stars:

And that's a wrap for tonight's edition of FNR! Have a GREAT weekend!!

You got my husband with this Retro. We watched Sublime, Rancid and Social Distortion videos until way too late as a result. We always enjoy your retros. Weird Al last week was great. We made the mistake of letting our daughter watch Amish Paradise and she could hardly talk about anything else for the next 3 days... She gets really "focused" on things like her parents.
Thanks, Angie! I sometimes wonder if anyone's even reading them. =)
