DAMN IT!!
A Boston-based restaurant chain has extinguished its local pizza ovens. Uno Chicago Grill’s two Fort Wayne locations – 4820 N. Clinton St. and 10460 Maysville Road – were closed Friday.
It figures. . .I'd never even tasted their pizza until this summer. They've had a presence here since 2002, but were off of my radar. After partaking of some authentic Chicago pizza in the Windy City this summer, I was looking for a local outfit to feed my new addiction, and these guys did a pretty damned good job of it!
We just ate at the North Clinton location before the Mellencamp concert - little did we know it would be our last time. . .

Oh man! I hate when that happens.
Good luck in finding a "replacement".
John, have you tried Big Daddy's? It's my favorite. Of course they knew that because they're putting one in my backyard.
Bummer that Uno is leaving. I have loved their pizza's forever here in Cali.
At least if you visit Big Daddy's you get to stop by and see Robert apparently :P
Thanks, MB!
Robert - Totally different animal.
Dusty - At least Chicago's relatively close!
John, I know - but as someone who doesn't really like deep dish pizza, I had to bring it up.
When I lived down in Indy I used to love Uno's. But when they opened the Clinton store up here, the pizza seemed different. I think they changed the crust or something.
Hey, is there any chance the the blame this on Dick Freeland????? :)
P.S. I would love it if someone would open a Donato's up here!!!
Robert - First off, it truly IS a slow day in the blog-o-hood when we're all discussing pizza joints! LOL! If I'm thinking deep dish here locally, I go to Oley's.
What Uno's had and Chicago has is more of a pie-like pastry crust with lots of cheese and chunky toppings.
Eric - Not much I can say bad about Pizza Hut or even Dick himself. The pricing is sorta high, but that seems to be standard anymore unless you're at a discount pizzeria. Dick's a very nice guy; but I obviously disagree with his views.
I've never been to Donato's. Good, I take it?
"I'd never even tasted their pizza until this summer."
You jinxed them dude :)
That totally sucks.
When I first moved to so. Cal. I used to frequent this great little restaurant called Le Peep's. They were only open for breakfast and lunch and they roasted their own coffee beans in the restaurant.
I LOVED opening the door and getting a face-full of the strong aroma of roasting coffee and their breakfast was, by far, the very best in town.
Then, one day they closed.
That was years ago and I am STILL upset about it.
:)
