OK, so how funny is that? Well not so funny, because it is so true! But funny still.

John,

I did a post that you might get into. I fell back into my old days, and adopted a POW/MIA for my blog. I have invited everyone to do the same, or use the one I adopted to help get the word out. Check it out, and let me know if you would like to help. What the thugs wish to forget, we will remind them of!

I'd hate to be in military uniform in times like these, when your commander in chief is trying to take the Geneva Conventions and use them as toilet paper.

Apparently the Journal Gazette (local paper for you out-of-towners) and I have the same tastes; this ran on their editorial page today.

Just out of curiosity, can any of you Einsteins tell me of any enemy of ours in any conflict that has actually abided by the Geneva conventions?

Turkette is such a wanker. He whines about people deleting posts, when he bans people from commenting on his own blog.

Two things Hansen, I delete bullshit annoymous posts, and posts that link back to childish attempts at humor on your boy Danny's blog.

Other'n that, they pretty much stand.

I think I'll totally quit paying attention to anyone who believes in the torture or humiliation of othr human beings. And that includes crazy Right Wingers who resort to childish name-calling and aspersions. BTW, Tim, that's not a balm made from aspirin.

Robert - Exactly. Life's too short. I have better things to do.

Craig - Try B-Sharp on Getz.

That's because we're tired of the childish behavior from some of your pals. You, at least here, have retained a somewhat reasonable demeanor. Ooops, that may have sounded "haughty". . .Now they'll call me John Kerry. . .

Anyways, in answer to your query, all nations involved in the Geneva conventions have abided by them. Have they abided by them 100%? HELL no (Not even US), but if they weren't in place, it would be a far worse situation. There would be no second thoughts about maiming or killing our soldiers.

The editorial cartoon that I posted illustrates the thought process on this very well:

If the U.S. doesn't follow the Geneva conventions, then other nations will stop following them altogether. Do you want to put our kids into that scenario? I do NOT. I will take 80-90% compliance over 0%...

Thanks for not convicting me on guilt by association. Now....Seriously what countries in any conflict have abided by the geneva conventions...The north koreans certainly didn't..the north vietnamese didn't either..ask John McCain...the answer is none...it's a great idea on paper that makes people feel good but does not apply in war. It was an afterthought of world war II that makes all of us seem more civilized. My whole point of this is how obvious it is this issue is a NON issue...everyone is preaching and screaming about something that has never been used and never will be used. Everybody should be ashamed republican or democrat for even making this a political hot button.

Forgive me for waxing philosophical about all this but just making fun of each other or patting our fellow believers on the back doesn't solve anything.

We're all starting to go blind on the big picture.....

Why does Tim Zank hate America?

Your argument seems to be that some countries/ and or enemies (i.e. terrorists) treat people badly, therefore we can treat people badly too.

You're proposing that U.S. policy be shaped from the actions of enemies of America.

I thought we were above that, but that must be my pre-9/11 thinking.

Craig, that is NOT my argument at all. We have never subscribed to the torture of our enemies after capture. We have been a civilized society since inception and we will not be torturing anyone in the future.

My argument has always been the same...this is all political horsesh*t used to poke a stick in the eye of the administration. The Geneva Conventions are a NON issue as they do not apply any realistic conflict....ever...

I'm nearly speechless! Are you really that uninformed?? READ THE NEWS. Nine documented DEATHS of prisoners have already occurred thanks to the "overzealousness" of some of our recent tortures. Did you miss the whole Abu Ghraib thing as well?

No I'm not that uninformed John, let me rephrase: It has never been our POLICY to torture captured prisoners. Our policy as a country, is to treat everyone fairly, wouldn't you agree?

You can't take the actions of a handful of misguided people in any profession (soldier/priest/cop/doctor) and make the blanket statement that the entire professions beliefs and actions are alike.

Of course there are people in the military who are criminals, child molesters, psychotics, good guys, bad guys etc etc...

You've got 150,000 soldiers on the ground in Iraq....you claim 9 documented wrongful deaths in the last 4 years.....

How many murders/wrongful deaths occur over 4 years in ANY city of 150,000 people?

The career generals/admirals/etc in our military today in Iraq were the very same ones who served under Bill Clinton also. We didn't just sign up NEW generals and admirals as soon as the war began that thought the way George does....these guys are career soldiers who are used to having a DIFFERENT commander in chief every 4 or 8 years.

Blind hatred and emotion really just clouds common sense.

It matters not how many soldiers are on the ground in Iraq. We were discussing torture of prisoners here. And the quoted deaths were in Guantanamo alone.

Again, tiny numbers not indicative of our policy as Americans and as human beings...there are bad people in ALL walks of life and in all nations.

You don't help matters blowing miniscule matters way out of proportion to serve your political ends. We know, we know, you hate the guy already.....So find somebody you like and work to get him elected and quit making it sound as though our whole nation and government are bloodthirsty warmongers that want to rule the world....it doesn't help
