The world view of America

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, addressing the U.N. General Assembly today, said "The devil came here yesterday", referring to Bush's Tuesday address there and making the sign of the cross. "He came here talking as if he were the owner of the world." Joining with Iran and Cuba he accused Washington of "domination, exploitation and pillage of peoples of the world", and appealed "to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our head". Hugo, you nicely summed up the feelings of the majority of Americans.

Iranian President Ahmadinejad took the podium hours later, denouncing U.S. policies in Iraq and Lebanon and accusing Washington of abusing its power in the Security Council to punish others while protecting its own interests and allies. He insisted that his nation's nuclear activities are "transparent, peaceful and under the watchful eye" of inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency and reiterated his nation's commitment to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. Let's sum this up: sovereign nation, under U.N. watch, asking for dialogue. . .yep, Bush will definately attack them next. It's right from his playbook.

And in Afghanistan, President Hamid Karzai warned that terrorism is rebounding in his country and that efforts to build democracy there had suffered setbacks over the past year as violence increased. NATO forces have been battling Taliban militants in some of the fiercest battles since the hard-line government was toppled in 2001. "We have seen terrorism rebounding as terrorists have infiltrated our borders to step up their murderous campaign against our people," he told the General Assembly. It's a damned good thing that we finished the job there before recklessly invading the sovereign nation of Iraq.

Thank GOD that George W. Bush has been working so hard on defeating the terrorists around the world. He's created so many new ones with his reckless abandon and complete disregard for our constitution as well as international treaties that he must be working triple shifts to keep up. From what I have been able to glean from his schedule, he apparently co-ordinates most of this work from his ranch in Crawford. Those lucky Texans. I wish we had a fearless Hoosier protector. Someone to work overtime HERE to protect our roller rinks, petting zoos, and general stores from terrorists. Lord knows, those Spaniards and Aussies are bent on taking over our fine state (Rumor has it that they have already obtained a large chunk of property north of here)!

Oops! I have to go now. . .Survivor is coming on, and I have Nascar on cable after that. And did you hear the latest about Britney? And Michael? No need for me to worry about the other stuff; George and Mitch have got it all covered. . .

It was a great speech. Viva Chavez.
After the owner of the world comment he followed it up with the fact that Bush needs to see a psychiatrist.
The laugh of the crowd was pleasing to my ear.

I must say though, I don’t believe the American public has any idea how dangerous Bush and his cohorts are. In addition most Americans do view Iran as a threat, which they are not.

It was fun to see the MSM try to spin it. Kyra Phillips CNN was visibly upset at the speech and had a hard time trying to marginalize it and Hugo. Her sidekick couldn’t come up with much either. Then they went to a “Reporter” from CNN Spanish Channel. With questions like, “How does this type of talk play in Latin America” being met with “He has a popularity in the region”(paraphrasing), Kyra was left floundering. All Kyra could come up with was “this type of talk just won’t play in the world”…

I’m sure Wolf AIPAC Blitzer picked up the ball later and did a good job to discredit President (the elected kind) Chavez. I don’t know, I was busy watching a new program that I found. “Out There TV”. News that the MSM dares not show. There website is “outheretv.com
It surprised me that such a thing would be shown in my area.

John, Did I miss Survivor, or is it repeats, or are you confused?

Oh, nice post also.

Human - Why do you say "most Americans do view Iran as a threat, which they are not."

Stan - You missed my point. Are YOU watching NASCAR right now? America has been distracted by TV and tabloids and not paying attention to what's going on in our government. I honestly can't tell you what night, channel Survivor is on. More important issues have my attention.

Speaking of "Out There TV", did anyone catch the fact that a train jumped the tracks in Crawford, TX right next to the Crawford Peace House? There was a chemical spill and the town had to be evacuated. BTW, this is not a JOKE!

Stan - Every poll that I have seen has shown it. The MSM hammers it in everyday.
Why would the pablum sucking public believe anything else?

Most believe that Saddam/Iraq had/was involved in 911, had WMD and that they were found. It's not called the boobtubr for nothing.

Peace.

human - we don't all rely on fox "news" for our information. Some of us depend on blogs ;-)....case in point, I had not heard that, robert!

I will definitely check out that out there tv. The real news should be getting it together pretty soon as well.

Chavez, man am I ever going to buy more citgo gas now!! Even though I have to drive across town to get it!

Ahmadinjad's comment about his nuclear program being transparent is a complete joke. Just last month Iran refused to allow IAEA inspectors access to one of their underground nuclear facilities - a violation of the non-proliferation treaty.

And no, I'm not promoting or endorsing the Bush administration view on Iran...

Jeff - I agree that ImMadintheHead likely isn't being totally square. On the other hand, how would YOU react to the Bush administration's threats and demands?

Hi Pam. I agree. Hence, my caveat "most". iwtnews looks promising. Hope it's not just on the net. I was quite surprised to see out there tv on a channel in my area. I just found it channel surfing on local channel 6.

Peace

Let me just add this:

I enjoy kicking around this president. All Democrats enjoy this - and we should do this as he's done a terrible, terrible job. Everything this administration has done has been a disaster. But he's OUR President and that clown Chavez doesn't get to come onto our soil and spout off about the evils of him or the US.

What he did obviously caused more harm than good for his country. Make your point if you will but do it in a way worthy of civilized UN debate. There's plenty of room for slamming the president - but the devil? I'm so sick of this religously fueled rhetoric that's destroying the world. I understand his frustration but his remarks were over-the-top...

Why is it okay for Chavez & Ahmadinjad to oppress their people and hold the world ransom? Seriously, I don't care how much you hate Bush, isn't it sort of a moral conflict for you guys to whine piss and moan about how badly WE treat everyone and then cheer these guys on who are clearly dictators? Where is your outrage? Where is your compassion for the people of Iran & Venezuela?
Why on Earth do you think you deserve the moral high ground when you ignore Darfur and a host of other genocidal ills around the world? How can you claim to be true to your set of values when you just pick the "crisis" which may be convenient for to you bash today? You're not liberal anymore, I think you've given in to fanaticism.

We have great compassion for the people of those two countries which, by the way, are led by presidents elected by those same people. In fact, the Iranians and we have much in common: We are aware of our electoral mistake.

We have no power under this government to intervene in Darfur, and this government doesn't give a rat's ass about those people despite recent posturing. Progressives everywhere have been protesting the genocide that is occurring there, just last week here in Fort Wayne. Darfur should have been addressed in 2003, rather than invading a sovereign nation. Give us back some legislative power, and WE will address Darfur. One cannot "pick and choose" when one is hog-tied.

Once again I think you missed my point. I was pointing out that you as a group (progressives) seem to take pride in cheering on 2 guys who clearly mistreat their own people. Perhaps you do have compassion for the people, but my point is also, you as a group (progressives) want to draw moral equivalency between the leader of the free world and a couple of crackpot dictators hellbent on making everyone miserable. The comparison is absurd.

It just defies common sense. You'll have a democratic President in 08, or 2012 and he (or she) is going to be despised and chided by these two morons and a host of others too.

I hope you are just pissed off and you don't honestly believe that they are really morally the same...

Forgive me John, but that's really way out there...

Again, agree to disagree. We could go back and forth on these for weeks and waste an incredible amount of time; I have more important matters to address.
