Somehow I can't take seriously the mindless blathering about "hard work" from a twat who built her "career" on one (incredibly bad) song, which ironically was about partying and drug usage. Hey, Pink, (if indeed that's your REAL name), why don't you go learn a little about "hard work" first?
I admire her courage. I don't think she intended to make much money on the song since it won't be played much on the radio. Being a professional singer is hard work and a lot of hours. I actually think the song sounds great! It's much harder to decide to do something that might make you look bad, then to do something bad to make you something. Know what I mean?
I've been a musician for the better part of half of my life, and I've even supported myself with my "skills" on a couple of occasions....and I'll tell you what: It's STILL not hard work. I feel old and tired some mornings, but if you're in it for the love of the music, it's not "hard work," it's just a strenuous hobby (for which you are occasionally paid).
I remember the animosity and hatred expressed by the Right Wing toward CSN&Y over "Ohio", toward Bob Dylan over "Masters of War", etc. I may not care much for Pink's music, but if the Right hates her over her song, then she's in damn fine company.
I don't know much of her work; I enjoyed the song though. However, I don't think one must be pre-qualified by personal experience to sing about a particular subject. She's merely commentating on what she sees happening around her.
If she was commenting on what she sees happening around her, the song would be entitled "Huge Mansion and Scummy Leech Boyfriend....with Limos and Nice Cars."
She may be singing about what she considers to be her (extended) surroundings, but I caught a glimpse of her house on Punk'd one time, I can assure you she's not sleeping on a cardboard box or doing ANYTHING that remotely resembles work.
I never claimed that she had it rough OR had to work hard. Let me try to be even more plain here: She empathises with those who are in the position that she is singing about. That fact that she is not in their position, but speaks for them is honorable in my book. I'm not going to turn this into another 220 year-old turtle thread, Andy. Just in case that's where we were heading here.
