When Black Republicans Attack

Are there really that many of them out there?

From Cenk Uygur:

The Young Turks have been broadcasting all week long from the Republican National Convention. We have had some really interesting interviews with Duncan Hunter, Heather Wilson, Bob Barr, Sen. Dan Coats, Rep. Bob Latta, Joe Klein, Michael Medved and the list goes on (you can check out a lot of these interviews on our You Tube Channel here).

Although there were great disagreements in many of these interviews, none of them got out of hand ... except one. The founder of HipHopRepublicans.com took exception when I suggested that George Bush might have been late in responding to Hurricane Katrina. He said he was shocked that I would suggest that late response might have cost some people's lives.

He proceeded to knock my mike down and then hit our camera on his way out. He also got within inches of my face as he stood over me. Watch it here:

Swing Semester

I heard about an awesome program this morning on The Young Turks radio show - Swing Semester. The group places progressive college students with host families in swing states, provides free room and board, and assists them in gaining employment while they are there. Clicking either screenshot in this post will take you directly to their site:

From their website:

The shared mission of Swing Semester and Swing Semester Civics is to build progressive citizens whose life-long ownership of the American political system goes beyond affiliation with any party, candidate, or issue.

Swing Semester, a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, rides the energy around election cycles to support young people in taking history into their own hands. We provide a bridge from interest to action for progressive college students, recent graduates, and other young adults. Through job counseling, social events, and individual on-the-ground support, Swing Semester enables young progressives to experience political activism in the context of community.

Swing Semester Civics, our sister 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, nurtures critical thinking and builds community among progressives in swing state communities. It organizes educational and networking events for swing state voters and supports the leadership development of young people engaged in progressive efforts in those communities.

Swing Semester 2008, a joint program of these two entities, will operate in select cities this fall. Visit our map to see our current program locations.

The Savage Truth

Why is Michael Wiener Savage so damned angry? No it's not just because Wiener Nation was definitely a non-starter as a show title - he disclosed quite a bit in his "unofficial biography". . .

The Soft Underbelly of the Democratic Party

by: Cenk Uygur

Here we go again. I was going to write a nice, fun piece about Matt Damon on a lovely Sunday afternoon when the Democrats went and ruined everything, as usual. From time to time, I am told that I am too hard on the Democrats. It is not possible to be too hard on these vacillating, spineless, rudderless, clueless clowns.

Alright, there has to be an important distinction here. Most of the Democrats in the House voted the right way on the latest capitulation to the most unpopular president in history. And 28 Democratic Senators voted the right way. The rest are the biggest bunch of weaklings and half-wits I have ever seen. They are the soft underbelly of the Democratic Party.

How many times do I have to write this article? How many times will these same Democrats give in to the worst president in history? So, this time, they caved on FISA. And they caved big time.

Click here to read the remainder of Cenk's interpretation of this weekend's capitulation.

Afterwards, please write a nice little note and/or leave a voice message for Congress-cavers Bayh, Donnelly, Ellsworth, and Hill. Thank Lugar for not even bothering to vote on this while you're at it. In case you're pondering a third party or considering (GASP!) voting a Repub into office to "voice your displeasure" with the above officials that we elected, consider this: The most effective tool we have is the primary. Let's run some TRUE PROGRESSIVE CANDIDATES here in Indiana on the Democrat's slate! Run YOURSELF if necessary. Even if you don't win, a primary challenge in our red/purple state will be a wake up call to our "blue dog Dems". . .or a call to action if they don't change course.

Note: Somebody's Watching Me. . .
