Madelyn Dunham has died at 86
Rest in peace, Mrs.Dunham. The world mourns your passing while simultaneously rejoicing over the gift that your grandson is to us all:
Madelyn Dunham, the grandmother who was the anchor in the life of the child that was Barack Obama, died today just hours before polling stations opened in America's historic election.
"It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer," Obama said in a joint statement with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng.
"She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength and humility."

One day.
One day more and she would have seen history in the making one more time.
It isn't fair.
But I'm thinking she went knowing that we'd do the right thing tomorrow.
Let's make sure we do, if we haven't already.
Well said. She prepared him for his place in life, and surely died content that she'd succeeded in raising a fine young grandson.
How very very sad. Yes, the timing was very unfortunate, but I believe that in Heaven she already knows the outcome and is smiling!
