A Visit to Indiana Dunes

We were invited to a "bonfire/party" up in Michigan last night, and me being me, decided to travel to Grand Rapids via Indiana Dunes State Park. We left early and had time to spend an hour or so at the dunes before heading northeast.

The Gary skyline
If you look closely and squint just right, you can see the Chicago skyline
Indiana Dunes State Park is a place we will definitely return to, especially since I now know how close to our typical Chicago route (US30-SR49-I-90) it is. A long stretch of beach for swimming, trails of various lengths and difficulty, and camping facilities are available. In the summer months, concessions and a campground grocery are available and cross-country skiing in the winter months. As an Indiana resident, $5 gets you and all passengers into the park.

The park is surrounded by Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, a federally administered park comprised of approximately 15,000 acres of beautiful and diverse landscape. I'll report on that one as well after we've had the opportunity to experience it.

I've been there!

But personally, I like the Warren Dunes up in Michigan better. I like to watch the hang-gliders there.
