38 Million Viewers

More people watched Barack Obama speak last night than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final "American Idol" or the Academy Awards this year. And that number doesn't include viewers who were tuned in on PBS or C-SPAN, whom Nielsen had no numbers on. It also nearly doubled the viewership of John Kerry's acceptance of the Democratic nomination in 2004.
