Shine's a little short
Okay. . .we already knew that, but this time it's not his stature that comes up short - "Indiana's Premiere Political Organization" is begging for cash to get through the holidays. Read more here, and look for Steve Shine manning a kettle in front of a Kroger near you. . .
Kevin Knuth, local Democratic chairman, said alienating certain party members is likely hurting the Republicans. The finances must be in pretty bad shape to force the GOP chairman to send a letter that would likely cause some embarrassment, Knuth said.
Like Knuth, Shine isn’t paid to be chairman, but he is part-owner of the building housing GOP Headquarters, and one of the party’s largest expenses is its $2,200 monthly rent for the building.

So Steve's collecting money for - Steve! If the GOP's broke, he can't collect his rent. I can tell you that if I believed in a cause strongly enough to be its chairman and had the financial resources of oh, say, a lawyer / entrepreneur I would probably donate the office space.
But that's just me...
It wasn't long ago the Republicans were laughing when the Democratswere hurting for money, and struggling to paythe rent.
Funny how the worm can turn so quickly.
I think it would be funny if the Democrats took up a collection and donated it to the GOP. Of course, to make it worthwhile, the media should be present during the donation ceremony.
I'm serious. I'll donate $20 to get the ball rolling. Anybody?
Vic - That was my thought exactly.
Larry - What goes around comes around.
Stan - You git 'er started and alert the press corps. . .
Doesn't Matt Kelty have some extra money he could "loan" the GOP?
I'll donate seven cents, plus a Mexican peso, two paper clips and a stick of chewing gum.
Seriously though:
The GOP is having this problem everywhere. Here in Arizona, a report came out at the end of October that showed we were outraising them by about 2-1.
There is a trap here though: Republicans have always depended on outraising Democrats and used their louder megaphone, together with their expertise in smears, lies and personal attacks to win elections. When Democrats won it was because we outhustled them, got in touch with individual voters and got them to the polls.
Recently though, I got a phone call that left me feeling very cold. I blogged about it here.
It was from a Democratic campaign, and they asked me for money. No request about whether I wanted to voluneer (even though I am an elected precinct committeeman) or anything, except for money.
I am glad that Democrats are enjoying some success in the financial area, but let's not lose track of who we are, who we represent and why we are different from Republicans.
Whoops. That link is
here.
Parson - I think they're fighting for the same money at this point.
Eli - You're far more generous than I! Let's hope that most Dems don't fall under the spell of the "almighty profit".
