Shoot-Out at the DC Corral

Mere days before venturing off on yet another brush-clearing adventure in Crawford, President Bush criticized Congressional Democrats for. . .being on vacation:

"The Democrats in Congress … have left Washington for spring recess without finishing the work," said Bush. "They need to come off their vacation, get a bill to my desk, and if it's got strings and mandates and withdrawals and pork, I'll veto it and then we can get down to business of getting this thing done," he said.

Looky here, chimp boy. . .this Congress, unlike the prior one that bowed to and fawned all over you has been working it's collective ass off trying to pass legislation that reflects the will of "we the people" who hired them to do so last November. Apparently you still haven't gotten it through your thick skull that you no longer control all three branches of our government, and that the brakes have been applied to your reckless ride down the unitary executive railroad.

"In a time of war, it's irresponsible for the ... Democratic leadership in Congress to delay for months on end while our troops in combat are waiting for the funds," continued the President, adding that the delay could result in the Army being "forced to consider cutting back on equipment, equipment repair and quality of life initiatives for our Guard and Reserve forces."

That is possibly the stupidest thing you have said so far this year. Ya see, Georgie Boy, funds were already allocated for all of the needs of our troops for this year - that was SO last year's budget. Here in 'merka, we have these things called budgeting and planning, which, in terms so simple that even yer dry-drunk ass can understand, means that we look ahead to see what we need to pay for and put money aside for those needs. We look ahead.

THIS Congress is indeed looking ahead. . .right up to the point where the budgeted money for your failed mid-eastern crusade runs out. And that, my friend, is where they have you by the balls. You go ahead and veto the bill that both houses have approved and are sent to your desk. The bill that pays all that you ask and more, while taking care of some basic needs that you have ignored. We won't even spend the time it would take to defend the spending that you call "pork" or even spend time discussing how laughable it is for YOU to object to "pork".

Instead, let's get right to the point here. We offered you all that you ask for, far more than you deserve, in this bill. You veto it, fine. But consider this. . .Congress ultimately holds the purse strings. You can continue your little war of choice until the money runs out at the end of the year, or you can agree to our terms and still redeploy our troops, while respecting them with proper training, armor, and limited tours, by next spring. Either way, no further funding will be made available for Iraq at that time.

This Congress has offered you a chance to "stay the course", but with restrictions that are in the best interests of our boots on the ground. WE support our troops, Mr.President. Do YOU?

That is the best response to Bush's little stomp in the rose garden. The best!

I actually listened to that mess on NPR today. Why oh why do I put myself through that? With the new Congress it's easier to listen. It's a comfort knowing that the garbage I'm hearing doesn't have broad support.

It's really sad to see a grown man throwing a temper tantrum like a 3 year old.

Its even sadder when that grown man is the Pretender to the Presidency.
