$500M legacy?

Comedy writers all across America have been buoyed by news that President Bush is looking to raise half-a-billion dollars to build his legacy-burnishing presidential library.

The punchlines write themselves: What's it going to house, 100,000 copies of The Pet Goat? Will there be exhibits on waterboarding and the quaintness of the Geneva Conventions? A room devoted to the nobility of the Hanging Chad? The Abu Ghraib Game Room?

But it's no joke that the names of donors to the library don't have to be made public. Bush 43 may be a lame duck, but he still has two years left in which he can throw open the doors of the White House favor bank. Whatever happened to the concept of government transparency?

The House of Impeachment! It's a grand palace with one book, one look and one kook! If this bastard gets a library it better come with readers. I mean live people or books on tape!

i would think he would put comic books in it -- as baby bush kind-of thinks of himself as a superhero...what a joke!

This is laughable sort of like the haunted house is funny to some people. He doesn't deserve a library, he deserves a freakin' prison cell. Let them name that after him!

You know John, I hate to point out discrepencies or "holes" in your stories but I just gotta hop on this one.

So far, in the last 24 hours, the ONLY source for the $500 million figure is The New York Daily News's un-named source. Not ONE other newspaper I've found corroborates the story, a few reference it and of course all the left nut blogs are printing it, but no one is VERIFYING it. This mis-information is no worse than what the right wingers do either, but don't you feel like a hypocrite when you reprint rumors as fact?

Oh, and don't worry about the anonymous donors, they'll be made public just like Bill Clintons donors were. Remember Mark Rich? Denise Rich? The Saudi royal family? The governments of Dubai/Kuwait/Qatar & the deputy prime minister of Lebanon?
He had a long list of colorful donors also...and so will the next guy..

Tim, just out of curiosity, will you apologize when the story ends up being true? I seriously doubt it. Like Bush, admitting one is wrong - at least in the eyes of neocons - is a sign of weakness, no matter how wrong they are.

By the way, John, I posted the secret design for the new Bush museum over at Left of Centrist. ;)

I saw! And I must say, I think they vastly overdid it!

TPR - Best name yet!

AZ - I doubt he can read comics books w/o assistance!

POP - It would be most fitting if we placed him in an unnamed prison in a unannounced location!

Tim - Wow. Sucks to be the minority party all of a sudden, eh? You'll get used to it. . ;)

Robert, I'll gladly apologize if I'm wrong. How about you?

If you build it, they will come.
That's the saying anyway.

We (not me) are the turds that elected him... twice! Go for it.
I personally think it's a bad idea though, since most of his legacy revolves around Iraq. Does he really want a library full of bad memories??? I'll wait for the outcome, but I bet he doesn't do it. Kind of like O.J.'s library that went nowhere. (not that I disagree with that). It was just a bad idea from the get go.

I wonder if he will have footage of the "Mission Accomplished" stunt in that library. Or maybe we can just cut to the irony of it all and have a copy of Sun Tzu's "Art of War" and really get the laughs going! Hell, why at it, there just has to be a pic hanging on that wall of him wearing that blue get-up in Vietnam. They can even caption the pic with "Sure I went to NAM!!" just to get the max amount of laughs from it.
